Awards and Scholarships
SENIOR AWARDS
Senior awards are presented every spring to graduating psychology majors. Students who graduated in the previous December are also eligible for the spring awards. The senior awards are listed below.
The Outstanding Graduating Senior is awarded to the senior with the most outstanding record of research experience, academic achievement and service.
The Charles R. Baron Mental Health Award is presented to an outstanding student who plans to pursue a career in the mental health field.
The Research Excellence Award is given to the student who demonstrates exceptional research potential.
The Academic Excellence Award is presented to the student with the strongest academic record.
The Department Service Award is given to the student who demonstrates a commitment to the university and surrounding community.
The Vincent Award is awarded to the student who demonstrates a unique sense of purpose and enthusiasm for psychology.
DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIPS
The department provides financial assistance in the form of two scholarships: the Ralph A. Tesseneer scholarship and the Dorothy Westerman Hermann scholarship.
The Ralph A. Tesseneer Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Ralph Tesseneer's exemplary contributions to NKU. The scholarship is for one year of full in-state tuition. To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must be at least a junior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. In addition, the student must be enrolled full time both semesters for which the scholarship is to be used.
The Dorothy Westerman Hermann Scholarship was established to recognize the outstanding academic achievement of an undergraduate psychology major. Eligible students must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 semester hours in the semester of application and have a minimum GPA of 3.25. In addition, the student must have completed at least 61 hours (at least 30 hours have to be completed at NKU), and be enrolled full time both semesters for which the scholarship is to be used.
Applications for these department awards and scholarships will be available on the department website by January 26th, 2009. Students applying for financial scholarships will also have to apply through the Financial Aid office. Applications for financial scholarships can be found on the web page of the Office of Financial Assistance. The university scholarship deadline is March 15th, 2009.
